Details
We will;
• See the old jail and small museum
• Look at restored and unrestored casements (a room) - one even has a cannon in it!
• View the harbor, bay, and the city of Newport from the ramparts (roof)
• Talk about what soldiers did to pass the time
• Take a look at on-going restoration efforts in an area (demi-bastion) that includes the kitchen and bathroom spaces.
• Explore a tunnel (or 2) to see how people moved around the fort
• Walk the extensive landward defenses and later defensive positions developed in response to post-Civil War technology.
• If time allows, we can even see the Southern Redoubt, probably the most incredible part of the fort, with a double helix staircase and castle-like architecture.
So, join us for this fun-filled adventure where you get a chance to touch 200 years of American (and Newport) history!
